New Release: Dave Camwell/Bach-Centric

Published by Tom Bergeron under Podcast, Recordings

This month we release Dave Camwell’s second CD, Bach-Centric. It’s a collection of pieces by the transcendent composer, J. S. Bach, transcribed and arranged by Camwell and others for saxophone(s). With this release, we are giving away a free track as an episode of the Teal Creek Music Sampler podcast. Subscribe to the podcast to receive all past and future episodes free!

Dave writes this about the album: “My musical path has always been influenced by the great German master of the Baroque Era. Johann Sebastian Bach’s (1685-1750) clarity and melodic invention have played major roles in my musical evolution, shaping many of my harmonic conceptions about both jazz and classical styles. The pieces contained on this CD are amongst my favorites from the huge BWV catalogue, and contain all the elements that I love about Bach - great melody, expression, craft, and imagination. My hope is that those who listen to this CD enjoy the coupling of ancient music to a modern instrument. I believe that when great music is performed with skill, care, and spirit, the result will be a joyful experience. I hope you agree.”

New Release: Bossa Nuevo

Published by Tom Bergeron under Recordings

This month we release the new eponymously-titled CD by Bossa Nuevo. Based in Urbana-Champaign, IL, the group is led by bassist Karim Yengsep, who is originally from Almaty, Kazakhstan. Their name references two influences: Bossa Nova from Brazil, and Tango Nuevo from Argentina. These influences are clearly evident in their music, which features compositions by the likes of Gilberto Gil, Edu Lobo, and Astor Piazzola.

The CD is available from CD Baby in physical and digital format. It’s also available at Amazon, and digitally through iTunes. Samples and links can be found on the Bossa Nuevo album page.

April Podcast

Published by Tom Bergeron under Recordings

The podcast has been on an unplanned vacation, but it’s back! The April episode was surely worth waiting for, as it features the opening track from the new Whirled News CD, BUGBEAR: Whirled News Plays the Music of Adam Bates. If you like that track, head on over to the Bugbear album page where you can hear excerpts from the other tracks. But don’t stop there: Buy yourself a copy — either an actual disk in a very cool eco-pak or a your very own digital copy. Happy listening!
